Itineraries
Day 1
Arrival at “Zvartnots” International Airport. Transfer to the hotel. Yerevan City Tour
Yerevan City Tour: the center of the city, the Republic Square, walking tour at Cascade where you will visit Gafesjyan Art museum, the Opera house, Tsitsernakaberd (memorial of the Armenian Genocide). Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2
Yerevan – Garni - Geghard - Yerevan
Breakfast at the hotel. Trip to the pagan temple of Garni which was built in the 1st century – a sample of Hellenistic architecture. Acquaintance with the stunning creation of Armenian architects – Geghard cave monastery. The name of Geghard is connected with the Holy Spear, which preserved the blood of Jesus Christ – the arrowhead of this spear was brought to Armenia by Apostle Thaddeus in the 1st century and today is kept in Holy Echmiadzin. The monastery is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites along with the canyon of the Upper Valley of the River Azat. The amazing acoustics of the Monastery is mystery up to now – in some places, the sound can be heard up to 40 seconds. Lavash baking and dinner. Return to Yerevan. A visit to the museum of Sergey Parajanov. His masterpieces have no analogues in the world. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3
Yerevan - Khor Virap – Areni - Noravank- Goris
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Khor Virap which is situated in Ararat region- on a hill in the nearby village of Small Lead. It is considered to be one of the holiest places of the Armenian Apostolic Church. According to the history, it was here that deep pit, into which Gregory the Illuminator has been imprisoned for preaching Christianity on the order of Tiridates the III. Only after long years of imprisonment, when Gregory the Illuminator cures Тiridates the III of a serious illness, the king proclaimed Christianity as a state religion. Geographically Khor Virap is the closest spot to the Mount Ararat. From here you will have the opportunity to see the legendary mountain. Visiting Areni wine factory. Lunch at the restaurant. Visit to Noravank (XIII c.). Accommodation at the hotel in Goris.
Day 4
Goris – Tatev - Karahunj - Eghegnadzor
Breakfast at the hotel. Tour to Tatev monastery (IX c.). Lunch at the restaurant. Transfer to Eghegnadzor. Stopover to visit Karahunj. Scientific studies proved that Karahunj is the oldest observatory in the world which dates back to the second millennium BC. Situated with amazing accuracy the huge stones have special holes that were used to study the stars. Near Karahunj petroglyphs (rock carvings) have been found suggesting that primitive man in Armenia had very certain information about astronomy. Overnight at Eghegnadzor.
Day 5
Eghegnadzor - Selim passage - Noraduz - Sevan - Dilijan
Breakfast at the hotel. Visiting Selim caravanserai through Selim passage. Selim caravanserai is a medieval inn on the Great Silk Road. Further, at an altitude of about 1900 meters, you will see the Blue lake Sevan, visit the cemetery of the village Noratus with the largest collection of cross-stones (khachkars) in the world. Lunch on the shore of the lake. Visit the Church of Sevanavank. Continue your way through the forests and valleys of the richest national park in Dilijan. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 6
Dilijan – Haghartsin Yerevan
Breakfast at the hotel. Haghartsin Monastery of X – XIII centuries is situated in the valley of Aghstev River with a beautiful temple of the Holy Virgin. The monastery complex also includes several beautiful khachkars and tomb Bagratuni – a noble family in Armenia, Georgia and Russia. Dilijan is famous for its skilled craftsmen of wood carving – the material, which the Lord gave them generously. Meeting with a ceramist and a master of wood carving in the ethnographic center of the Old Dilijan. Lunch and return to Yerevan. Visit to Matenadaran which is the depository for more than 18,000 ancient manuscripts. Then, you will meet the family of designers. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 7
Yerevan – Echmiadzin – Zvartnots
Breakfast at the hotel. Trip to Echmiadzin – the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the residence of the Catholicos of Armenians. Visiting the Art center. Dinner. Visiting the ruins of the unique temple of Zvartnots (VII c.) which is a masterpiece of the Armenian architecture. Holy Echmiadzin and the Temple of Zvartnots are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Transfer to Zvartnots International airport.
