YEREVAN - HAGHPAT MONASTERY - ZARNI-PARNI CAVE COMPLEX - AKHTALA FORTRESS - ARAMYANTS CASTLE - SANAHIN MONASTERY – YEREVAN

 The journey heads north from Yerevan into the Lori region with a visit to the UNESCO-listed Haghpat Monastery, renowned for its medieval scriptorium and educational traditions of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Nearby exploration continues at the mysterious Zarni-Parni Cave Complex, a cave-fortress system carved into the cliffs west of Haghpat.

The route proceeds to the town of Akhtala to see the richly frescoed Akhtala Monastery and the remains of the historic Akhtala Fortress.
A stop follows at the distinctive 19th-century Aramyants Castle, a rare Swiss-style architectural landmark in Armenia.

The tour concludes with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Sanahin Monastery before returning to Yerevan.

Starting our trip by exploring Lori region. Transfer to Haghpat – functioning monastery of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Monastery Haghpat is famous whit its scriptorium and school, which founded in Haghpat in the 10th century by the first abbot of the monastery, the famous scribe vardapet Simeon, became widely known in Armenia.
Excursion to one of the mysterious corners of Lori Province is the Zarni-Parni cave-fortress complex, located in the western part of Haghpat Monastery. The structural components of this historical complex are the “Zarni er”, “Parni er” and “Tsak er” caves. Continue our trip to Akhtala, where it will take over three hours to get but it’s the city where visitors will see the magnificent Monastery of Akhtala, perhaps one of the most beautiful and interesting monasteries not only in Armenia but also throughout the world, and the partially preserved Fortress of Akhtala. Visit to Aramyants castle, Swiss-style built in Akhtala, Lori region (19th century). It was built by well-known philanthropist Mikael Aramyants and is the only preserved castle in Armenia besides the Tairov castle in Vanadzor.
Finishing our trip by visiting to Sanahin Monastery which is located in Lori province, particularly in Alaverdi. Carrying outstanding universal value to humanity the Monastery of Sanahin was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999. Return to Yerevan.
